Conclusion
So in conclusion, I learnt quite a lot about the animation industry and now have a better idea on what to expect after I leave university and start my work journey.
For starters, it allowed me to see all the different pathways of an animation artist; from going straight into the industry by finding work at big studios, making a name for yourself through independent work and awards or doing some extra studying through master degrees. It helped see the logical positives of these pathways; but also how to be cautious with the negative elements of these pathways, especially within the current and uncertian times of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Which in turn, has helped me in finding a plan for the future that will help me feel secure while also not feeling like I'm going nowhere.
However, if I were to try and do this blog again; I would try being more involved with my class as a whole, as outside of the peer review week where I emailed two of my classmates, I didn't have many opportunities to communicate with them. This was due to the fact that I didn't have the social media Discord which was what my tutor was using during those sessions, and although I used recordings of those sessions to keep up through a google drive, I did still feel a bit lost by being unable give my opinions to my classmates or asking questions to my tutor about various topics which lead to me making guesses on how to present my work. But I guess that did help in making my blog feel more independent and gave me more control on how I would present my work.
Now, as the final piece to this blog, I will conclude with my step to step final plan for the future, as of this moment in time (February 2021)
- Finish my Animation Degree
- Take a gap year off education, this to allow myself to avoid anymore disrtubions the pandemic might cause and focus more on expanding my brand through various social media platforms
- During my brand expansion, start doing commission work to earn a bit of extra money and to build up a portfolio. (Of course with the commissioner's permission)
- Might do some more volunteer work as well when things start opening up
- After my gap year, I'll start applying for master degree courses, mainly in character designing and storyboarding.
- Once I get my degrees, I'll start applying for jobs in the industry.
