Cover Letters
For the following week, we moved on to what would be the companion piece to the CV, which would be the cover letter. A cover letter would be sent to an employer/employing company along with a CV where the letter would explain why the writer (aka, someone like me) would be right for the job the employing company is advertising for.
So, our task for this week was to create two cover letters for open jobs, to teach us how to write them so we can use this knowledge in the future once we leave uni and start looking for work in the industry. To do this task, I went onto the website Indeed.co.uk in search of any job listing that interested me in their collection of jobs; mainly ones that relate to jobs I inspire to officially work as in the industry (illustrator, storyboard artist, character designer, etc).
Letter 1;
Right Eye Productions
2D Animator/Illustrator
The first job I came across that sparked my interest was one for a music video company called Right Eye Productions; as they were looking for an animator/illustrator who specialises in a 2D style for their first animated superhero film.
And while the project itself didn't seem like something I usually pick out, I did pick out some small elements that I work write into something that would make myself more appealing to the studio since cover letters are meant to persuade people into hiring people.
So, all in all, I think this cover letter turned out pretty great. However, after realising that this format wasn't accurate to a proper cover letter; I decided to fix that for my second cover letter.

Letter 2;
BECG
Digital Content Creator
The second job I picked out was more of a in-between for a runner like role, while also still being somewhat connected to animation; this being a digital content creator.
This new version of my cover letter focused on the main format of one; having a introduction paragraph, a brief look at my education and a short list of my skills that would explain why I would be a great fit for their company, both with my skills and my personality. Before ending everything with a small ending paragraph thanking them for taking their time to read the letter and being hopeful for getting a call back for an interview since I would explain more about why I would fit into the company during it.
So overall, I feel like this letter was an improvement over my previous one and with a better understanding on what a cover letter is, hopefully I can write even more to use in the future.
