PERSONAL ANIMATICS
After my graduation ceremony in November of 2021, our animation tutor informed us that he sent all the students who graduated a student license to use the industry softwares to practice, help build up a portfolio or just to have some fun with. Since I want to specialise in storyboarding, animatics and using storyboard pro; I decided to take my gap year to create some animatics, to help me get used to all the bells and whistles of the software.
Granted, most of these animatics feature copyrighted material such as music and characters as I make these based of various fandoms I'm into. But, the main goal of these animatics are to help me become more accustomed to the industry standard softwares for when I (hopefully) start studying my storyboarding masters and enter the industry.
"Good 4 You"
Fandom: Ratchet and Clank (2016 movie)
Based on the 2016 Ratchet and Clank film; I wanted to warm up my independent skills in making a animatic on my own by making one based on my biggest hyper fixation at the time.
Summary/Context; After Captain Qwark's (green) betrayal against the Galactic Rangers due to his jealousy against Ratchet, he has a guilt filled nightmare where his former rangers (Elaris in blue, Cora in orange, Brax in brown and Ratchet in gold yellow) call him out for his selfish behaviour; where he starts to think back to what caused this jealousy to happen in the first place and how if he doesn't fix this actions, history will repeat itself. But since he's in denial, he tries to punch his guilt away into awaking up; where he meets a unfortunately familiar face.

"My Eyes"
Fandom: Ratchet and Clank (2016 movie)
Once again also based on the 2016 Ratchet and Clank film; this time being a more self indulgent animatic as a Valentines gift to myself as I do have a crush on the character Dr Nefarious from the film. But as to keep on track with improving my skills, I also took this animatic as a chance to include more backgrounds as a slow progression of improvement from the previous animatic.
Summary/Context; Dr Nefarious, a former Galactic Ranger, plans his vengeance against his former friends as they try and bury what they did to him in the past, but there is still some good in the Doc as he fears for his robotic future. Meanwhile, I've joined the rangers and have been enjoying my friendships with them, seeing the team's relationships grow into something hopeful; my next plans being to bring Nefarious back into the team. So when we cross paths in town, I reach out to him but will he accept the gift of companionship or will his fears of turning fully evil become a reality..?

"Balan's Waiting on a Miracle"
Fandom: Balan Wonderworld with many cameos from other game franchises"
Now for a different fandom, since it was the one year anniversary of one of my favourite video games (Balan Wonderworld), I wanted to make a little celebration animatic for it. However, since the game has not had the best critical reception (a running theme for a lot of my favourite things) it kind of lead me into making a more somber animatic; more focused on how Balan would feel after a year of being critically attacked. I also took this animatic to add a bit more dynamic visuals such as some small bits of lighting/shading for intense lighting and a impressive bit of animation. I also had a go at a new method for writing my scripts, by noting down how many frames I was going to draw per section to help me plan out scenes more, which I think helped not only the pacing of the animatic, but also helped to speed up the process of creating the animatic!
Summary/Context; While the Nintendo classics overstay their celebration for the release of “Kirby and the Forgotten Land” and a successful 2021, Balan watches sadly as he’s been forgotten which was sadly expected for him after a year of hatred and bullying… So, he starts to drift away from the celebration and sing his broken heart out; reflecting on what he wants but how everyone keeps dragging him into darkness and despair… Can Balan stay balanced or will his heart be connected to his destiny…
"Fairytale"
Loosely based off "Little Red Riding Hood" featuring Mr Wolf from "The Bad Guys" movie + book series
Another self indulgent animatic; this one was made after I watched the new movie by Dreamworks "The Bad Guys" and quickly developed a crush on Mr Wolf. And wanting to make a more light hearted animatic after my previous emotional one; I decided to take one of my favourite songs (Fairytale by Alexander Rybak) and use that as a base for this animatic. Plus, I wanted to try and challenge myself with my pacing skills by trying to convey a story throughout the animatic since my previous animatics already had visuals I could use as reference for the pacing since they came from musicals that had easily accessible visuals to reference. As well as seeing how I could fill in the musical breaks, where there are no lyrics, with interesting visuals; as well as improving my skills with the exclusive storyboard pro features such as the camera and motion tweening.
Summary/Context; We all know the story; about a Maiden in a hooded cape, hunted by a wolf... But what if, there's a version of the tale; where the maiden and wolf, were actually friends? After an incident where their playdate was interrupted by the huntsman; these friends were forced apart while growing up, but once adults would meet up in secret in the woods. However, when Wolf accidentally hurts Hood and she starts to fear him; can their friendship still remain; or has it completely changed for the worst...or for the better...?

"Ready as I'll ever be"
Fandom: Spiderman: No Way Home
For this animatic, I wanted to try a more action based animatic; which would feature more dynamic poses and action; as well as taking the knowledge I've gained from previous animatics to add more animation and interesting transitions. However, I did have some problems with burnout during the course of production as I didn't have a break from work at one point, so this project also reaffirmed to me the importance of taking breaks.
Summary/Context; After kidnapping Aunt May and holding her hostage in the Statue of Liberty, Green Goblin plans on manipulating Peter to give into the dark side and become the villain the world sees him as; especially as he feels like Peter will never help Norman. Meanwhile, Doc Ock, Sandman, Ned, MJ and the other Spider-men are working on the cures for the three villains waiting to fight; while Strange consoles anxious Peter who worries for the safety of his aunt... Ending when the two sides of hero and villain collide for the climax.
